Xavier Munford Joins July 2022 USA Basketball Men’s World Cup Qualifying Team

USA Basketball announced today that guard Xavier Munford (Rhode Island/South East Melbourne) will join the July 2022 USA Men’s World Cup Qualifying Team in Miami, as the team prepares for a pair of World Cup Qualifying Games this week. David Stockton (right hand injury) will no longer be with the team.
Munford has extensive USA Basketball experience having most recently played in three of six 2019 World Cup Qualifying windows. He also helped the USA to the 2017 AmeriCup gold medal, averaging 10.2 points (.450% FG, .333% 3FG, .909% FT), 3.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists, team-high 1.6 steals and 19.2 minutes.
In September, Munford signed with South East Melbourne of the NBL. He averaged 16.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.3 steals in 26 games. After going undrafted in 2014, Munford has played in the NBA, NBA D and G Leagues, and internationally in Spain, China and Turkey.
The USA squad, coached by Jim Boylen, opened training camp Friday night in preparation for the third competition window of 2021-23 FIBA World Cup Qualifying games that will see the USA (3-1) face Puerto Rico (2-2) on July 1 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Cuba (0-4) on July 4 in Havana.
