USA Women Finish Pool Play 4-0 at 3x3 U18 World Cup
Behind leadership from Mikaylah Williams, the USA Basketball 3x3 U18 women’s team continued pool play with a pair of wins over Kyrgyzstan and Ukraine at the 2022 FIBA 3x3 U18 World Cup in Debrecen, Hungary, on Wednesday. The U.S. closes qualifying at the top of Pool D with a 4-0 record.
In their first win of the day, the Americans got to 21 points in just 6:02 while holding Kyrgyzstan to four points in that span. Mikaylah Williams led all scorers with 10 points (5 1FG, 2 2FG). The game is the second-fastest of the tournament – men and women – through three days of competition.
Mikaylah Williams added 10 more points in the 21-12 victory over Ukraine. Through four games, she is averaging 9.3 points (37 total) and is the fourth-leading scorer among all athletes, and second amongst the women.
She drained six one-pointers and a pair of two-pointers, with her second long range shot putting the U.S. up four (10-6) after a 3-0 Ukrainian run had cut the U.S. lead to two. The Americans capped off the win from there, finishing the game on an 11-6 run through the final three minutes of the contest. ‘KK’ Arnold and Sarah Strong added four points apiece, with Sahara Williams following close behind with three.
Along with Ukraine (3-1), the USA qualified for the quarterfinals out of Pool D. The Americans are slated to face Netherlands at 3:40 a.m. ET on Saturday.
USA Basketball will be back in action Friday as the men tip off with Dominican Republic at 12:15 p.m. ET and Estonia at 2:05 p.m. ET on Friday in the conclusion of pool play.
