Some of the details have faded from the minds of the extraordinary women who made up the 1983 USA Basketball Women’s World Championship Team, but the most prominent storyline of their charge toward the gold-medal game at the FIBA World Championship that year forever will remain strong and clear.

Comprised of a mix of returning veterans, with a combined 23 Olympic and World Cup gold medals and an overall 669-39 (.945) winning record in USA Basketball games played, the 2018 USA Basketball Women’s World Cup Team was finalized ahead of the Sept. 22-30 FIBA World Cup in Tenerife, Spain.

The 2018 USA Basketball Women’s National Team earned a hard-fought, unofficial 70-60 scrimmage win over Australia on Wednesday afternoon in Tenerife, Canary Islands.

Following a three-game tournament in Antibes, France, that featured 11 of the 16 finalists for the 2018 USA Basketball Women’s World Cup Team, the roster has been pared to 13 athletes for the eventual 12-member team.
