Growing up, many athletes watch the Olympics and dream of one day competing on the world stage and winning gold medals. In 2010, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) created an opportunity for young athletes to achieve that dream, and the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) launched that year in Singapore. Following in the footsteps of its older sibling, the YOGs are held every four years and feature both summer (2022, 2026, etc.) and winter editions (2020, 2024, etc.). The 2022 Youth Olympic Games will be held in Dakar, Senegal.
The basketball competition at the Youth Olympic Games is a 3-on-3 format organized by the International Olympic Committee and FIBA. Featuring athletes age 15-18, the 2018 Youth Olympic Games, held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, featured 20 boys teams and 20 girls teams, as well as a individual contests for both men and women. In 2022 the Youth Olympics will be held in Dakar, Senegal.
