Process for Becoming a Licensed Basketball Coach

The 2019-20 USA Basketball Coach License season features two offerings: the Gold Coach License and the Associate Coach License. Each license type carries an associated annual fee. Please note: No refunds will be issued once the licensing components have been started.

ASSOCIATE COACH LICENSE

  • This license is valid from the day of completion through September 30, 2020, and only available to applicants who possess a valid U.S. Social Security number.
  • Annual fee: $42.00

GOLD COACH LICENSE (required to coach in NCAA-certified events)

Domestic Applicant Annual Fees
NOTE: Due to COVID-19, USA Basketball will waive the high volume fee during the month of April and July, and extend the license season. This applies to the 2019-20 season only. Please see below for updated fee structure and new expiration date.

  • This license is valid from the day of completion through September 30, 2020, and only available to applicants who possess a valid U.S. Social Security number.
  • $58.00 – If registering before January 1, 2020.
  • $68.00 – If registering in January through September.

International

  • This license is valid from the day of completion through September 30, 2020, and should only be selected by those applicants without a valid U.S. Social Security number.
  • $77.00 – If registering before January 1, 2020.
  • $87.00 – If registering in January through September.

Important: If you live in a county that charges extra fees to process background checks, you will be charged separately for those fees by Sterling Volunteers in order to process your background check.

STEPS TO APPLY FOR A BASKETBALL COACH LICENSE

Step 1: Select COACH REGISTRATION, create your account and select your license type at community.usab.com.

Step 2: On your dashboard, select BACKGROUND SCREENING to begin your check through our screening partner Sterling Volunteers.

Step 3: On your dashboard, select CONTINUE under COURSES and complete the required courses in your account.

USA Basketball

Once your background screen is clear and you have completed your courses, you will become automatically licensed for the season and receive the benefits associated with your license level.

If you are participating in or operating a NCAA certified event, there is an additional requirement.

Step 4: NCAA Basketball Certification System (BBCS) requirements: You will also need to complete steps required by the ECAG in the BBCS including event/league applications, coach registration, and roster submissions. The USA Basketball Coach License will expire on September 30 this season.
