Frequently Asked Questions

Q- Who is the Coach Academy designed for?

A- The USA Basketball Coach Academy – presented by Nike – is designed for everyone! Coaches of all experience levels and who teach players of any ability will find many benefits from attending our Academy. Designed to include full group presentations, breakout sessions and panel discussions, any coach will be able to engage with the guest speakers and content. Coaches will leave the event with an increased understanding of the USA Basketball Player Development Model and Curriculum, as well as new practical drills, plays and theories to implement within their own teams and organizations. Whether you are a currently licensed USA Basketball coach or new to our youth programming, we welcome you to join us in this one-of-a-kind coach development opportunity.

Q- How do I obtain my official USA Basketball Coach License following the Academy?

A- USA Basketball Youth Development will contact each Academy attendee via email following the event. For coaches who attend the Academy and are not yet licensed USA Basketball coaches, the information in the email will explain how to create a coach account along with the link to direct them to the proper site. USA Basketball Youth Development will provide coaches with specific steps on how to create their account and explain how you will receive credit for the two required online courses taught at the Academy in the live setting.

Depending on the license type you choose, there may be additional online courses to complete that were not taught at the academy. Successfully passing a background check will be the third and final component to complete in order to receive a license. Please allow approximately one week following the event for USA Basketball to email you with details on creating your account and completing the licensing process. To avoid duplicate accounts and missed credits, please do not create your coach license account until you have been contacted by USA Basketball.

Q- How old must you be to attend the Coach Academy?

A- Due to the age restrictions for obtaining a USA Basketball Coach License, all Academy attendees must be 18 years of age or older to participate in a Coach Academy.

Q- Where do I check-in for the Academy?

A- Attendee check-in will be set up one hour prior to the start of the Academy. All details including times and locations of check-in will be communicated closer to the event date by email to all attendees. It is important to arrive during the check-in time slot to receive your appropriate credential needed for entry into all Academy facilities and sessions.

Q- Is there any USA Basketball Youth Development apparel available at the Academy or to licensed coaches?

A- By attending the Coach Academy, you will receive a Nike/USAB gift item which is the first of its kind to be offered to coaches. Currently apparel is not offered for sale at Academies, but you may purchase USA Basketball gear on our online store HERE.

Q- How can my facility and/or organization host a future Coach Academy?

A- USA Basketball is always interested in connecting with new locations to host Coach Academies.  If you have a facility potentially interested in hosting a Coach Academy or any other USA Basketball event, please fill out our event host application HERE.
