Beginning on Sept. 18, children in the Colorado Springs area will have the opportunity to play basketball for free once a week and Gold Camp Elementary.
The USA Basketball Coach Academy - presented by Nike - is designed to provide coaches valuable insight and education on how to teach the game of basketball to young people, as well as how to implement fun, safe and feasible programming throughout various organizations (i.e. schools, recreation centers, clubs and leagues). The Academy is presented in a multi–day format with sessions are led by USA Basketball staff and guest speakers. In addition, coaches experience networking opportunities to meet and socialize with other attendees as well as speakers.
Coaches learn the USA Basketball curriculum to impart a proper skill development path while teaching the game to players of all ages and ability levels. Additionally, guest speakers will focus on areas of expertise and deliver sessions on best practices among coaches and administrators both on and off the court. Attendees will leave the Academy with the ability to become USA Basketball Youth Development licensed coaches.
Sessions at the USA Basketball Coach Academy feature a variety of styles of teaching including: lectures, panel discussions, on court basketball instruction and off court coaching techniques and life skills training. During breakouts, coaches have a choice of sessions to attend based on what topics most interest them and best suit their program or team needs. All options will offer comprehensive education, taught either on or off the court.
