The 8th grade, 13U and 12U divisions at the 2023 U.S. Open Basketball Championships are open registration to boy’s and girl’s teams of all levels nationwide. Hosted by USA Basketball, registration is now available while capacity permits on a first-come, first-served basis. Play for a championship and the chance to raise the USA Basketball trophy at our premier summer event!

TEAM ELIGIBILITY
8th Grade Division – Athletes cannot turn 15 prior to September 1, 2023 OR Grade exception: Athletes must be enrolled in the 8th grade or below (as of October 1, 2022) AND cannot turn 16 prior to September 1, 2023.
13U Division – Athletes cannot turn 14 prior to September 1, 2023.
12U Division – Athletes cannot turn 13 prior to September 1, 2023.
***An athlete may only appear on one roster at the U.S. Open Basketball Championships and will not be allowed to play for multiple teams.
Coach/Bench Personnel
Rosters must have at minimum 1 license coach. All coaches or bench personnel must hold a valid USA Basketball 2022-2023 Coach License, which includes passing a mandatory background screen.
Roster Size
The team roster maximum size is set at 15 personnel. This roster must consist of at minimum 1 licensed coach and at maximum 14 players.
TEAM REGISTRATION PROCESS
Registration
Team registration for the 8th grade, 13U and 12U divisions of the USA Basketball 2023 U.S. Open Basketball Championships is open on a first-come, first-served basis until capacity is met. Registration includes basic team and coach information, acknowledgment of tournament standards and team entry fee.
Roster Verification
Following registration, all teams must complete roster verification which includes age and grade verification for all players, coach license confirmation of all coaches and bench personnel, and signing a USA Basketball waiver. The deadline to complete team verification is July 6, 2023. Registered teams will receive a confirmation email with instructions.
BENCH RULES
Only eligible and rostered team members (athletes or coaches) are allowed on the bench at any time during competition. All coaches must wear their tournament credential when sitting on the bench.
Dress Code Enforced: All bench personnel must adhere to the coaches’ dress code by wearing a shirt with a collar, dress pants, slacks or khaki pants, dress shorts or khaki shorts or dress skirts and closed-toe shoes. Prohibited attire while sitting on bench:
- Sandals
- Open-toed shoes
- Hats or head attire (unless religious headwear)
- Sweatpants, track pants, leggings, joggers
- Athletic shorts
U.S. OPEN BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS FEATURES

TOURNAMENT HOTELS
This tournament is NOT a stay-to-play event. Teams can coordinate whichever accommodations best suit their needs and/or desires. However, hotels with preferred rates have been secured for the event.
