Shop NowTwenty-four 10th grade teams and twenty-four 9th grade teams will qualify for pool and bracket play competition at the U.S. Open Basketball Championships. The U.S. Open Basketball Championships are USA Basketball’s premier summer 5x5 youth tournament, played under USA Basketball youth guidelines, to crown a national champion.
The 2023 U.S. Open Basketball Championships 9th and 10th grade divisions are hosted at the NCAA Women’s College Basketball Academy, and qualifying teams will be one tier of NCAA College Basketball Academy participants. All qualified team participants may have actual and necessary expenses (travel, accommodation, meals) paid for by the NCAA if allowed by their state high school association.

TEAM QUALIFICATION TO THE U.S. OPEN BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Teams must earn their bid to the 9th and 10th grade divisions of the 2023 U.S. Open Basketball Championships by placing in an Official Qualifier or by receiving a limited wildcard bid.
FIND A QUALIFIER
Official Qualifiers take place in the lead-up to the U.S. Open Basketball Championships, with qualifying teams from each event earning an automatic invitation to the U.S. Open Basketball Championships at the NCAA College Basketball Academy.
A limited number of wildcard bids will be awarded by a USA Basketball selection panel. Wildcard bids provide an additional opportunity to teams not placing at 2023 Official Qualifiers or unable to travel to qualifier locations.

One invitation is reserved for the winning programs from the 2022 U.S. Open Basketball Championships 9th and 10th grade divisions to enter a team into the 2023 event.
TEAM ELIGIBILITY
9th Grade Division – Eligible athletes must have been enrolled in the 9th grade on October 1, 2022 AND cannot turn 17 prior to September 1, 2023.
10th Grade Division – Eligible athletes must have been enrolled in either the 10th grade or 9th grade on October 1, 2022 AND cannot turn 18 prior to September 1, 2023.
***An athlete may only appear on one roster at the U.S. Open Basketball Championships and will not be allowed to play for multiple teams.
Coach and Bench Personnel Requirements
Rosters may have 2 coaches maximum. All coaches must hold a valid USA Basketball 2022-2023 Coach License, which includes passing a mandatory background screen.
Roster Size and Makeup
Team rosters are capped at 10 athletes and 2 coaches, for 12 members total. Rosters are locked based on the confirmed athletes who played in the qualifier event, with only 2 athlete changes (including additions) permitted.
Athletes must reside within the same state as the team’s official address or within a geographically adjoining state to the team’s official address. International athletes playing on US teams must use an applicable host family or boarding school address within the US. International teams must consist of athletes all from the same country.
An athlete may only appear on one roster at the U.S. Open Basketball Championships and will not be allowed to play for multiple teams. Minimum grade for players on a roster is 9th grade as of October 1, 2022. All athletes on confirmed rosters must be registered in the NCAA Eligibility Center.
BENCH RULES
Only eligible and rostered team members (athletes or coaches) are allowed on the bench at any time during competition. All coaches must wear their tournament credential when sitting on the bench.
Dress Code Enforced: All bench personnel must adhere to the coaches’ dress code by wearing a shirt with a collar, dress pants, slacks or khaki pants, dress shorts or khaki shorts or dress skirts and closed-toe shoes. Prohibited attire while sitting on bench:
U.S. OPEN BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS FEATURES
If allowed by their state high school association, the NCAA may pay for the actual and necessary expenses of each prospect and one parent/legal guardian or chaperone. Participants (players, coaches and one guardian/chaperone) will undergo off-court educational sessions set up by the NCAA to provide insight about the NCAA recruiting process and playing at the collegiate and professional levels.
