The USA Basketball Coach Academy - presented by Nike - is a basketball coaching clinic that provides coaches with practical insight and education on how to teach the game to players of all ability levels. Whether you are a first year coach or a 30-year veteran, a coach of elite-level talent or beginners, these professional development clinic sessions are implementable for all teams and programs.

The coach academy is conducted with presentations led by guest speakers from all areas of the game. Attendees will hear from a wide range of coaches, including those who teach at the high school, collegiate, professional and international basketball levels as well as motivational speakers who focus on leadership training. The clinic provides an intimate setting for networking and ongoing discussion between attendees and speakers. USA Basketball and Nike gift items will be provided to all registered attendees as well as catered meals throughout the weekend.

Sessions at the USA Basketball Coach Academy feature a variety of styles of teaching including: player demonstrations, lectures, panel discussions, on court basketball instruction and off court coaching philosophy and life skills training.

Become a better coach by investing in yourself this off-season.

Q: What is a coach academy?
A: The USA Basketball Coach Academy is a basketball coaches clinic designed for coaches to advance their skills and expand their knowledge of the game. By learning the latest trends in player and skill development and adding to your drill library, a coach can grow and be better prepared for his or her next season.

Q: What type of coach is best suited to attend and learn at coach academies?
A: The USA Basketball Coach Academy is designed for everyone! Coaches of all experience levels and who teach players of any ability will find many benefits from attending academies. Whether you are a current USA Basketball licensed coach or new to our youth programming, we invite you to join us in this one-of-a-kind coach development clinic.

Q: How old must you be to attend a coach academy?
A: All coach academy attendees must be 18 years of age or older to attend.

Q: What will take place during the Saturday and Sunday Weekend Pass?

A: Coaches have the option to register and select the Saturday and Sunday weekend pass. This weekend pass is limited to the first 40 coaches who register for it and includes up close and interactive learning from 10-time Gold Medalist USA Basketball Head Coach Don Showalter and an additional guest speaker. Study practice planning the Junior National Team way, review a film breakdown, learn from a leadership presentation, partake in a small group discussion and finish with a Q&A session.

Q: If I attend multiple Coach Academies, will I be hearing the same information?

A: Each Coach Academy is unique and individual, and sessions are based on the different speakers that are presenting. Although there may be similar topics, it is always great to see two different top-notch coaches teaching the same topic differently. Hearing and learning from multiple coaches allows you to best take the information back to your teams.

Q: Can I watch the sessions filmed at coach academies?
A: All coach academies are filmed for free ongoing coach education and development. Recorded sessions are produced and uploaded into the resources folder for Gold Coach License coaches.  One of the many benefits of holding a Gold Coach License each year is the continued access to watch these hundreds of amazing instructional videos!

Q: Does attending a coach academy provide credit for obtaining a coach license?
A: The coach academy and the coach license are two independent programs. Because of the mandatory online courses required and the criminal background screen component of the coach license, this program must be fully obtained through the online platform at https://community.usab.com. Both are encouraged to align your coaching philosophy, skill knowledge and safety standards with the national governing body of basketball.

Q: Is there any USA Basketball apparel available for purchase at coach academies?
A: USA Basketball apparel is not sold on-site at events. Apparel may be purchased on our online store HERE.

Q: How can my facility or organization host a future coach academy?
A: USA Basketball is always interested in connecting with new locations to host coach academies. If you have a facility potentially interested in hosting a coach academy or any other USA Basketball Youth & Sport Development event, please fill out our event host application HERE.
